Weakening the authority of the patriarch and his family has been job one for ecclesiastical and political tyrants since time immemorial. It started with demonizing polygyny and ends with eviscerating the authority of the father over the disposition of his daughters in marriage. Which is why appeals to Scripture carry zero weight with these usurpers. Their true religion is the power religion.
